that's infotainment
Just as it’s a sure thing Canadians will consume more not less foreign technology, it’s naive to think that Canadians will significantly cut back on the amount of American entertainment we consume, books we read or sports we follow. But we might at least consume them increasingly through Canadian sources and software.
And remember, the English-language entertainment industries are continental in structure, and already employ many thousands of Canadians — but mostly in California and New York. Wouldn't it be nice if more of that talent could stay in Canada?
In addition to spotlighting Canadian production, we’d offer good critical advice on new TV series, movies, and music that comes from European and other international sources — including many fine Canadian co-productions. Right now, a good Big Dudley would be about the Canada-Europe cultural relations that are outlined in the new EU free-trade deal, and where people might tune in or click in.
Entertainment is a huge part of the creative industries every Canadian city seeks to attract. We’ll keep tabs on how well they're doing.
